ACTS Engineering Club

ACTS Engineering Club is an in-class and extracurricular offering for students aged 13-18 interested in STEM concepts, collaboration, design, innovation and invention. We reach homeschoolers in Albemarle County and in surrounding rural counties including Madison, Greene, Louisa, Augusta and Orange.

Our goals for the 2011-2012 year include:

Using STEM principles, practice collaboration and design using project-based activities, Participate in a service learning project, Invent and prototype a product with both commercial and educational applications. In order to achieve success, we would secure community mentors, create a business plan seek start-up grant funding from a local or national source.

* Seek out female and minority students proactively for diversity within the Engineering Club.

STEM education is an issue close to my heart as I am a Hispanic woman who graduated from UVa's Engineering School through the generosity of grants and scholarships. I look forward to the opportunity to reach rural or at-risk students with STEM collaborative learning.
