Alverno College Research Center for Women & Girls

The Alverno College Research Center for Women and Girls (RCWG) is a collaborative, multidisciplinary, and action-oriented research center focused on initiating positive social change in the lives of women and girls in Milwaukee and beyond. The RCWG research team, made up of Alverno students, faculty, staff, and Milwaukee community leaders, will empower women and girls by allowing their voices, experiences, and ideas to help guide the RCWG research agenda.

The Alverno College Research Center for Women and Girls (RCWG) will not conduct research that just ends up sitting on the shelves - it is our hope that our research findings will positively impact the community and improve the everyday lives of women and girls on the local, state, and national levels. One of the central goals of the RCWG is to become the premier research center for women and girls in the United States.

* The RCWG will act as a clearinghouse for data on girls and women for the girl- and women-serving agencies in the region. By compiling girl-and women-related information into a comprehensive database, the RCWG will be able to identify specific areas of research on girls and women that require further attention and investigation; this will ultimately help inform our future research agenda.

* The RCWG will organize events such as workshops, forums, lectures, symposiums, conferences, and a film series exploring a wide range of issues impacting the lives of women and girls. In addition, the Center will host debates on public policy issues that have special importance to women and girls while providing workshops on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers, self-esteem, body image, and leadership to Milwaukee area girls.

* Acting as a one-stop resource, the RCWG will be open to the public so that students, educators, civic and elected officials, and businesses can easily access and use our information.
