Art2STEM

Art2STEM: introducing girls to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math career paths by tapping into their natural attraction to art. The objectives of Art2STEM are as follows:

Develop a pedagogical foundation (e.g.

How People Learn) to promote student-centered and contextual learning as well as technical skills (e.g.

3-D modeling, virtual reality, rapid prototyping, etc.) for the middle and high school teachers, business volunteers, and college students who serve as coaches for the after-school clubs.

Enrich students' understanding of STEM applications in everyday life and future career opportunities.

Advance the art, science, technology, engineering, and math skills and attitudes of girls who participate to better prepare them for STEM-related career academies.

Generate enough interest in STEM careers to promote enrollment in STEM-related high school career academies.

Identify a set of effective practices for increasing interest in STEM careers by linking more common student interests, such as the arts, to applications within STEM careers.

Build a collaborative community foundation and infrastructure to support the sustainability and scalability of Art2STEM.
