AWE+SUM Girls Science/Math Camp

A four-day campus resident camp for girls who will enter 8th grade the next fall. Two sessions (1 in June, another in July) accept 40 girls and provide a series of hands-on workshops, including vitamin solubility, stream environment analysis, aviation basics and simulators, polyhedra mobiles, tuned wind chime construction, programming with "Alice" Campers are recruited from disadvantaged populations, and only a minimal registration fee is requested. The camp is supported by grants and donations and aided by AAUW volunteers. Workshops are led by outstanding female college faculty members. College students serve as counselors; one college student is assigned to each group of 10 girls.
