Baltimore Woods Nature Center

Nature in the City connects Syracuse students in grades K-6 to science in their neighborhoods through hands-on instruction in subjects ranging from the pumpkin life cycle (1st grade) to predator/prey relationships (4th grade) and energy (5th grade). According to an audit of the Syracuse City School District's program and spending conducted by Say Yes, without Nature in the City, the average Syracuse elementary student receives only 5.9 minutes of science instruction each day. We need to prepare the next generation to take on 21st Century challenges. Eighty percent of the jobs created in the next decade will require math and science skills. Nature in the City provides each participating elementary school with: Three, hour-long learning sessions in each classroom at each K-6 grade level. Additional educational support for teachers with classroom supplies and online lesson plans containing varied activities to reinforce learning. Access to performances of the award-winning Nature in the City show by Billy B Brennan, the Natural Science Song and Dance Man.
