ecoEXPLORE

Experiences Promoting Learning Outdoors for Research and Education  (ecoEXPLORE) is an incentive-based citizen science program for children in grades K-8 who reside in western North Carolina. This innovative pilot program, developed by The North Carolina Arboretum, combines science exploration with kid-friendly technology to foster a fun learning environment for children and encourages them to explore the outdoors and become a citizen scientist.

Children send photo observations of plants and animals, which are then uploaded to iNaturalist where they are used by scientists. Children earn points for each observation they send, and can redeem their points for field tools including binoculars, insect nets, iPod Touch units and more.
