LIGO Hanford Obseratory

LIGO, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory, operates detector facilities near Tri-Cities, WA and Livingston, LA.  These two installations house the world's largest high-precision optical instruments.  Scientists across the globe analyze data from these detectors to uncover gravitational-wave signals from events in outer space.  LIGO's Tri-Cities location, LIGO Hanford Observatory, offers observatory field trips to schools and community groups and can send an outreach staff member to schools and community venues in the southeast WA region.   LIGO Hanford's Web site, www.ligo-wa.caltech.edu,  contains a number of educational resouces.  Contact LIGO Hanford directly via outreach@ligo-wa.caltech.edu .
