TECHFIT (Teaching Engineering Concepts to Harness Future Innovators and Technologists)

TECHFIT seeks to spark STEM interest in middle school children by demonstrating the impact information and technology have on our world and inspiring this next generation of innovators to design and implement technology-based fitness games to get people moving and having fun while simultaneously and positively improving their health.  TECHFIT invites middle school teachers to complete a professional development (PD) program in the summer. During the subsequent school year, they deliver TECHFIT as an afterschool program and/or in-school class at their schools. Each school's TECHFIT session includes a culminating activity in which they present their exergame innovation at Purdue University to compete for the championship trophy.

As of November 2017, over 65 teachers have completed week-long, PD programs and implemented TECHFIT at their schools across several states: Indiana, South Carolina, Ohio, Washington, Wisconsin, Michigan, Tennessee, and Virginia. As of May 2017, over 800 middle school students completed TECHFIT programs/classes at their schools. By December 2017, an additional 470 students are expected to successfully complete TECHFIT programs/classes at their schools.

More information is available on the TECHFIT website: https://techfit.tech.purdue.edu/.

***Applications for no-cost PDs in June and July 2018 are open until 3/25/18.***
